Nepal: Volunteer Abroad Nepal: Social Placement Program
Volunteer in support of orphaned children and children in need in Nepal
Where: Shanti Sewa Griha – Budhannikantha
What: Shanti Sewa Griha means 'Peace Service Home' in Nepali. Originally created specifically to help leprosy-affected people, they have now opened their doors to help any poor, sick, handicapped, orphaned and leprosy affected people of Nepal.
They provide FREE OF CHARGE...food and shelter, medical services and medicines, rehabilitation, vocational training, infrastructure to produce goods, school education, nutrition and health and hygiene training to communities, childcare and care and council for domestic refugees.
The all-encompassing strategy is to create self-esteem and dignity to their target group, respect their indigenous culture and religion, and help them to become self-sufficient and re socialized into society.
Volunteer duties:
Shanti Sewa Griha needs volunteers to help in areas where their local staff do not have education or expertise. Most of their staff were once patients and don’t have a lot of experience or education. Like many NGOs, funds and staffing are in short supply.
The Shanti Sewa Griha Budhanilkantha center can use help in a unique variety of ways: Assist teachers in the Shanti Primary School with children up to grade 6 Arrange activities and recreation with the children. Work, play and help care for the disabled children (some of whom are in wheelchairs). Help with the enormous organic farm and orchard. Lend a helping hand to the builders and labourers who are always improving adding to the center. Help in the malnutrition & health education rehab center.
