Trans-Mongolian Express: Russia-Mongolia-China (Basic) (IMT) - 15 days

The Trans-Mongolian is one of the great train journeys of the world. Departing from Moscow the train takes you across the vast Eurasian land mass, from the west of Russia, across Siberia, over the border into Mongolia and across the great steppe, then into China, ending in the capital Beijing.

Itinerary

Day: Description:
1 MOSCOW
Arrival day.
2 MOSCOW
Free day to visit the highlights of Moscow such as Red Square, St Basi'’s Cathedral, Lenin's Tomb and the Kremlin. In the evening we board our train to Irkutsk in Siberia.
3-5 TRAIN
A once in a lifetime experience! Our route to Irkutsk first takes us to Yaroslavl where we cross over the Volga then on through the Ural Mountains. 1,777km from Moscow we see an obelisk which marks the boundary between Europe and Asia and from this point on we are in one of the last great wildernesses, Siberia. Passing majestic scenery on an unbelievable scale we continue to Irkutsk.Days 6-7, IRKUTSK - LAKE BAIKAL We arrive very early in Irkutsk and transfer to Listvyanka Village, on the shores of Lake Baikal, where we stay with local families. We have time to experience the realSiberian lifestyle and enjoy beautiful Lake Baikal.
8 IRKUTSK
Transfer back to Irkutsk where there is time to look around before we catch the evening train to Ulaan Baatar.
9 TRAIN
Our route follows the Selenge River and crosses into Mongolia at the border town of Naushki.
10 ULAAN BAATAR
We arrive in Ulaan Baatar in the morning and make the short trip to our ger (yurt) camp in the Mongolian steppe.
11 GER CAMP
A free day to ride horses, visit nomads and generally enjoy the beautiful countryside.
12 ULAAN BAATAR
Transfer back to Ulaan Baatar. Free day to explore the Mongolian capital.
13 TRAIN
We catch the morning train to Beijing.
14 BEIJING
Our train takes us through northern China and we get a glimpse of the Great Wall en route to Beijing. Arrive in Beijing late in the afternoon and transfer to our hotel.
15 BEIJING
Tour ends.
