A bit about Volunteer Abroad:
We believe international volunteering promotes cross-cultural learning that helps create global awareness, understanding between cultures and provides the platform for positive change. Our volunteers have taught in schools, provided disaster relief support for the International Red Cross, conducted essential research to improve the management strategies of threatened environments, built homes for impoverished people, provided vocational training and programs for street kids and have worked in co-operation with hundreds of local organizations to distribute aid and improve the quality of life for people throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Peru Volunteer Project – HAMPY
Hampy is currently working on projects in several public and private institutions within the Andean city of Cusco and the province of Acomayo in addition to pilot projects in the the rural communities of Chocco and Kuychiro. All of their endeavours must meet basic requirements in keeping with Hampy's general mandate - to develop programmes that have a therapeutic, preventative and rehabilitative focus in the areas of physical and mental health, education and economic and ecologic resource management.
By developing his pilot projects in the communities of Chocco and Kuychiro, they are striving to develop basic systems to increase the overall physical and mental well-being of those who live there. Areas that are currently being improved are: basic health treatment and prevention, micro-business training and agricultural development and construction of preliminary infrastructure within the communities.
In addition, they are involved in projects within the local schools, health centre and with local evening youth groups.
Chocco Elementary Schools
Projects within the school system of Chocco serve to raise awareness of the basic educational needs and developmental stages of children in the community. These projects strive to help local teachers to utilize new and innovative techniques in administering basic curriculum, as well as to aid parents in taking a proactive role in their childrens education. |
