Phnom Penh
Our adventure begins in Cambodia's capital, a friendly riverside city with
loads of Khmer charm and faded French-colonial elegance. Venture into the serene environs of the Royal Palace with its spectacular
Silver Pagoda, a stark contrast to the tragedy of the Khmer Rouge era revealed on visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. There is time to delve deeper into Khmer history at the National Museum, to hunt for silver and local crafts in the Russian market, or take a sunset stroll along Sisowath Quay. |
| 3-6 |
Siem Reap
A short flight takes us to the laid-back town of Siem Reap, our base for explorations among the stunning temples of Angkor. Over the next few days, our guide introduces us to history and mythology of the Angkor empire, as we wander among the ruins. Hindu epics come to life in the sandstone bas-reliefs of Angkor Wat. Feel the might of nature as we explore root-smothered Ta Prohm, and wonder at the skill of Khmer artisans while admiring the stone heads of the Bayon. Ease away any temple-fatigue with a massage back in town, and travel further afield to visit pretty Banteay Srei, the best preserved of all the temples. Our adventure ends with a sumptuous feast of Khmer cuisine. |
